What is College Park 100?
College Park 100 is a website and event series designed to explore College Park’s history while engaging in meaningful discussions related to the property’s future. The dialogue generated by College Park 100 will be used to inform the future design of the site.
Why propose a redevelopment at College Park now?
College Park is an architectural icon, but it’s not a major destination. It sits relatively anonymous in one of Toronto’s busiest neighbourhoods. Meanwhile, Yonge and College has emerged as one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods in the City of Toronto, evidenced by the over 250,000 people commuting through the TTC’s College Station every week.
With the 100th anniversary of College Park looming in 2030, there is a timely, if not overdue, opportunity to enhance this landmark by referencing Ross and Macdonald’s original vision to create an exciting mixed-use complex that addresses issues of housing, mobility and public space within this key node of our city.
How will the greater community benefit from a redevelopment?
In collaboration with the City and the public, we are actively shaping our proposal to maximize community benefit. This will include improvements to publicly accessible space, the programming mix of any future development, and phased construction designed to limit disruptions to traffic and mobility.
We are committed to enhancing sustainability, mobility and access to housing, and to driving community benefit, among other considerations, and this will eventually be formalized in an agreement with the City.
Where are you in the municipal approval process?
We have submitted a formal development application to the City of Toronto outlining our proposal to revitalize and expand College Park. This application was informed by a series of pre-application meetings. We have launched the College Park 100 website and held a free public architectural talk in The Carlu to facilitate meaningful dialogue and collaboration with the wider public. As the City has not yet approved the application, there is no confirmed timeline for when construction would start.
